MITCHELL SCHORR

MITCHELL SCHORR - Night Time

VIEW ORIGINAL PAINTINGS

"Art is about enjoying life," says Mitchell Schorr, standing in the center of Sarah D. Roosevelt Park in the heart of Chinatown, where he painted his newest mural, at the behest of Parks Commissioner Stern. This is exactly what the 33-year-old Manhattan native Mitchell Schorr does everyday, whether he is cruising around SoHo on his red Harley, hanging out at trendy cafes or paling around with famous rock bands, he enjoys life. "Life inspires me, everyday experiences, the city's architecture, my friends, music film," says Schorr. On any given day or night Schorr can be seen pencil and sketch pad in hand, at some high profile event. Where it's a record release party for one of his Rock & Roll buddies, a new restaurant opening or a side street with interesting facades, he thrives on beauty, energy and excitement.
Schorr is no stranger to the New York art or social scene. He has an A-list of private and corporate collectors and an excellent resume including exhibits at The New England Museum for Contemporary Art, The National Arts Club, Gen Art shows and auctions, commissioned album covers, published book inserts, and advertisements in regional magazines. His works have been written about in ArtNews, Flatiron News, The Miami Herald, seen on MSNBC, as well as featured at the 2003 Grammy Awards.
The serious Schorr, of course, is not all about riding and playing around. Since the early age of 10, he was enrolled in The Art Students League in NYC and consequently went on to study art. Schorr attended such top institutions as The New York Academy of Art, Ithaca College, and the Carnegie Mellon School of Art, as well as the Lorenzo De Medici Institute of Art in Florence, Italy. His education and formal training helped to develop and perfect his fine art skills as well as his creativity.
Today he is known for his drawings and oil paintings, of which he has over 200 combined works. The reoccurring themes throughout his pieces are energy, motion, sound, color, and texture. The manner in which Schorr depicts his subjects incorporates creative use of bright, fauve-like colors paired with bold expressive brushstrokes and textured layers of paint, which evoke feelings of motion and action. "I want to evoke within the viewer a desire to touch my paintings" says Schorr.
